With the work now completed for the fitment of the new throatplate, firebox outer wrapper & repair section to the backhead pressing the boiler work continues on a pace towards the fitment of the new inner firebox. New pads & washout plug bosses have been welded onto the new outer wrapper & the old foundation ring, previously used as a datum reference, has been removed. Going forwards the new inner firebox will be fitted into position as well as the new firehole door ring & foundation ring and once the boilersmiths are happy the inner firebox can be drilled, reamed & finally fitted & stay’d.
